THE President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu and the leadership of the organized labour is at the moment engaged in a closed-door meeting at the State House, Abuja,

The high-stakes discussion is focused on resolving the ongoing controversy surrounding the proposed new national minimum wage.

It was gathered that leaders from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) arrived at the State House at approximately 2 p.m in a white Hiace bus.

The delegation includes NLC President Joe Ajaero and TUC President Festus Osifo, who are spearheading the negotiations on behalf of their respective unions.

The meeting follows recent developments from the Tripartite Committee on the new national minimum wage, which presented two divergent figures to President Tinubu

While the organized private sector and the government proposed a wage of N62,000, organized labor has been firm in its demand for a N250,000 minimum wage.

This disparity has caused a delay in the President’s decision to forward an executive bill to the National Assembly.

President Tinubu has opted to conduct further consultations with all relevant stakeholders to address and resolve the contentious issues.

In addition to representatives from organized labor, key government officials are also in attendance.

This includes National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy Wale Edun, Minister of Health and Coordinating Minister of Social Welfare Prof. Ali Pate, Minister of State for Labour Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris, and Minister of Education Prof. Mamman Tahir.
