International Youth Day: Edo Govt organises innovation challenge

The Edo State Government, as part of activities to mark the 2022 International Youth Day is set to organise a youth innovation challenge for youths in the state.

Mr Chris Osa Nehikhare, the state Commissioner for Youths and Humanitarian Affairs, disclosed this at an interactive session with newsmen on Sunday on activities lined up to commemorate the day.

Nehikhare explained that the innovation challenge which is to support youth led driven solution would centre on but not limited to healthcare, education technology, job creation, security, power, agriculture, as well as art and the creative industry.

He also disclosed that application and registration for the innovation challenge had commenced and would close on Aug. 28, adding that the requirements include a business plan, while applicants must not be more than 35 years of age.

He disclosed that the benefits of the exercise include grant for 10 innovative ideas/solution, business incubation and/or acceleration training with a top international NGO, as well as mentorship and coaching by top entrepreneurs for six months.

The commissioner who reteirated the Edo State Government commitment to youth development, said that the Gov. Godwin Obaseki led administration in the state would sustain efforts at providing opportunities for youths in the state to reach their full potential.

“The government would also sustain efforts at empowering them to contribute their quota to the growth and development of the state and our dear country Nigeria”.
