The Campaign Director of the Edo PDP Campaign Organisation, Hon. Mathew Iduoriyekemwen has said that the judgement of the Federal High Court in Abuja today has not in any way affected the candidature of its flag bearer in the upcoming Edo governorship election of the 21 September 2024.

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja presided over by Hon. Justice Ekwo in a case filed by some persons who claim that they were delegates wrongly excluded from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primaries held on the 22nd of February 2024 to decide who becomes the candidate of the party for the Edo governorship election coming up on the 21 September, 2024 doesn’t in anyway invalidate the candidacy of Dr Barr Asue Ighodalo.

He made the statement in a Press briefing today at the campaign council headquarters of the Asue Ighodalo and Barr Osarodion Ogie Campaign Office in Benin City, the Edo State capital.

According to him, “This judgement, like the previous ones he gave in the past in Edo state, will not stand the test of time, because the wishes and the will of the people cannot be subjected to the determination of one man who sits in one office because he has been made a judge and take whatever decision that he wants to take.

“We will pursue it at the higher court, appellate court even up to the Supreme Court because we are law abiding people, we will hold the part of the law and at the end of the day, we will ensure our candidate not only gets justice in the court but will also get victory by the people of the state.

“I want you to know that this judgement that took place today did not in any way invalidate the candidacy of Dr Barr Asue Ighodalo and his running mate, Barr Osarodion Ogie nor does it challenge the primaries that produced the candidates and therefore I urge everyone to disregard the rumour by mischief makers making the round”.

In a related development, the chairman of the Edo State chapter of PDP, Dr Tony Aziegbemi in a statement also pointed out that the candidature of the PDP flag bearer, Barr Asue Ighodalo and his running mate, Barr Osarodion Ogie remain intact, insisting that the Abuja Federal High Court judgement did not invalidate it.

According to him, “Let it be on record that the candidature of Dr Asue Ighodalo as the flag bearer of the party for the 2024 elections remains intact and that the judgement of the Federal High court in Abuja did not in any way affect the candidature of Dr Asue Ighodalo

“The PDP is aware that certain elements who are scared of the soaring popularity of our candidate, Dr Asue Ighodalo are going about peddling rumors that the candidature of Dr Asue Ighodalo has been nullified”.

He therefore urged the general public to disregard the rumour.

“We urge our teaming loyal supporters to remain calm and resolute as there is no cause for alarm”, the statement said.
