The Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki has called on the Edo governor- elect, Senator Monday Okpebholo to desist from making false statements and prepare for the serious work of governance.

This is contained in a statement signed and made available to the Press yesterday by the Edo State commissioner of communication and Orientation Chris Osa Nehikhare.

According to the statement, “It is disappointing to read the sad and unfortunate comments credited to a purported Special Assistant to the Governor-elect, Monday Okpebholo, in which he made various spurious claims and allegation against the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration in Edo State.

“An invitation has since been extended to Okpebholo and his team by the Edo State Government so that they can begin to access and understand the details of the activities of the State Government since the beginning of the Obaseki administration.

“One would have expected at this point in time that the major preoccupation of the incoming team would be to understand the complexities and nuances of governance.

“Okpebholo and his team should be reminded that the electoral campaigns are now over and it is now time to focus on delivery of services to the people of Edo State. Wild claims and allegation do not augur well for the state or office of Governor.

“The governor-elect, Okpebholo, needs to begin the process of detaching himself from the whims of godfathers and start carrying himself with the decorum that the office of Governor demands.

“Edo State has been run responsibly and transparently for the past eight years and comprehensive reports of the activities of all aspects of government will be handed over to the incoming APC team and will also be made available to all appropriate agencies of government.

“We therefore call on the general public and security agencies to disregard this false and spurious statement and be rest assured that Governor Obaseki’s administration has nothing to hide and will continue to serve the people of Edo state faithfully and honestly till November 12th 2024”.
