As the #endbadgovernanceinnigeria enters day six, a large and vocal group of protesters were alleged to have converged on the residence of Nyesom Wike, the immediate past governor of Rivers State, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
According to reports, the protesters were said to be driven by their frustration and discontent with the escalating cost of living in Nigeria, which has become a critical concern for many citizens.
They were said to be expressing their grievances through chants, songs, and placards bearing various messages, all calling for change and improvement in the country’s governance.
The protesters’ presence was said to have been met with a heavy security response, as personnel armed with rifles and clad in riot gear were deployed to guard the minister’s residence.
Despite this show of force, the demonstrators remained peaceful and resolute, continuing to chant and sing, including reciting the old national anthem.
One of the protesters was heard pointing out Wike’s house, making it clear that the demonstration was specifically targeted at the minister’s residence.
This protest is said to be part of a broader movement calling for an end to bad governance in Nigeria, with demonstrators demanding that the government takes concrete actions to address the country’s pressing issues which include the rising cost of living, corruption, poor leadership, and a range of other concerns that have left many Nigerians feeling disillusioned and disenfranchised.
By targeting the residence of a high-ranking government official like Nyesom Wike, the protesters aimed to draw attention to their demands and push for meaningful change in the country’s governance.
The demonstration was a testament to the growing frustration and discontent among Nigerians, who are increasingly calling for accountability and transparency from their leaders.
